Coming Alive

By Sabrina Karlin

It doesn’t seem so long ago
That trees
Pinecones
Grass
Was frozen in an immortal state.
And a heavy dusting of feather white glitter
Blanketed everything South of the darkened sky.
And an eerie mist
Shrouded the pine-engulfed mountains.
Swallowing them up
Like a hungry predator.
But gradually the sun shone through
Warming everything.
Now features of those wintry nights
Are now those of Spring.
But everything on earth
Must come a time to die.
The ivory powder vanishes
Until next year
Goodbye.
